A survey on public forest seedling production in Italy

In the upcoming years, challenge of exponential growth in tree planting activities matching climate crisis, which requires use targeted and adapted plant material, calls for creating an updated framework Italian forest nursery sector, both basic materials (BM) reproductive (FRM). The present paper aims at highlighting pros cons public system and, same time, characterizing current organization production capacity quantitative qualitative terms. Our effort was focused on recovering information, topic development has been gradually weakened last decades. research carried out two steps: (a) analysis online available sources; (b) diagnostic by questionnaire to sector managers. specific objectives were: (i) describing state art MBs; (ii) qualifying quantifying seedlings (active nurseries, management nurseries regions, typology types FRM produced species); (iii) understanding real potential users BM FRM; (iv) assessing usability information related chain. picture national scale is definitively fragmented from all points view: availability BM, FRM, rationalization innovation growing systems, computerization.
